1. What are the main parts of a dolphin called?

2. What is the difference between a dolphin and a porpoise?
The main difference is their size, dolphins are larger.
3. Are dolphins endangered?
Yes! Several river dolphins are endangered.
4. How many kinds of dolphins are there?
There are 32 oceanic dolphin species and 5 river dolphin species.
5. Where are dolphins located?
Dolphins inhabit all oceans and seas and 5 rivers.
6. How can you tell the difference between a male and a female dolphin?
You have to look underneath the dolphin, at its' belly. If you see one long slit with 2 smaller slits on either side, that is a female. No slits to the sides is a male.
7. What is the dolphins life span?
25 to 40 years.
8. How often do dolphins give birth?
Every 2 to 4 years.
9. How long do dolphins stay pregnant?
1 year.
10. How do dolphins sleep?
They sleep with one eye open at all times.
11. How fast can a dolphin swim?
Up to 40 km/hr.
12. How deep can a dolphin dive?
300 to 500 meters.
13. What is the distance a dolphin can travel?
Up to 16 hours a day, or 128km per day.
14. Why do dolphins make so many sounds?
To keep in contact and communicate with each other to find food or scan their surroundings.
15. Do dolphins have a sense of smell?
No.
16. What do dolphins eat?
Fish or Squid.
17. How much do dolphins eat per day?
15 to 33 lbs. per day. Whales, which are in the dolphin family, eat 100 lbs. per day.
18. Do dolphins have any form of camouflage?
Yes, they blend with the water.
19. Are dolphins naturally friendly?
Dolphins in captivity are used to a humans' touch; but, dolphins born in the wild still maintain a reputation of being friendly creatures compared to other wildlife.
20. How long can dolphins go without being in water?
Not long. A dolphin's blubber will cause it to overheat, and the dolphin's body is not designed to support its own weight, so it relies on the water for support.
21. What is the dolphins greatest predator?
Man!!!
